Do I need to understand AHP?

Why not just rate everything 1–10?
Ratings can be surprisingly arbitrary. What does a 7 for “neighborhood” actually mean compared with an 8 for “price”? Pairwise comparisons are simpler: you compare two things directly and say which one you prefer.
