Big decisions deserve better than a coin flip

Some choices follow you around for weeks. Which city, which job, which apartment, which supplier. You collect opinions, build a spreadsheet, rate everything from 1 to 10 — and still end up staring at the ceiling, no closer to an answer.

The problem isn’t a lack of information. It’s that human brains are bad at weighing many competing factors at once. Gut feeling quietly overweights whatever you looked at last, and scoring tables just hide the same guesswork behind numbers.

One big question, many small comparisons

FindTheRightChoice.com takes a different route. Instead of asking you to rate everything on an arbitrary scale, it asks you to do the one thing people are genuinely good at: comparing two things at a time.

Which matters more — cost or commute? And by how much? Is apartment A or apartment B better for the neighborhood? Answer a series of these small questions, and the site assembles them into a complete picture of what you value, ranks your options, and explains why the winner fits you.

The method behind it: the Analytic Hierarchy Process

Under the hood, the site runs on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) — a decision-making method developed in the 1970s by mathematician Thomas L. Saaty at the Wharton School. It has been refined, peer-reviewed, and applied for five decades: governments, hospitals, and companies have used it to choose everything from infrastructure projects to suppliers.

AHP structures a decision as a hierarchy: your goal at the top, the factors that matter in the middle, and your options at the bottom.

Every judgment you make is a pairwise comparison on a simple scale from “equally important” to “extremely more important.” From those comparisons, the method mathematically derives priority weights — how much each factor really matters to you, and how strongly each option performs.

AHP has one more trick that we love: a built-in consistency check. If you say cost matters more than commute, and commute more than neighborhood, but then rank neighborhood above cost — the math notices. Instead of silently producing a shaky result, it can point at the judgments that don’t fit together.

You make the judgments. The method keeps them honest.

What we deliberately left out

Classic AHP comes with comparison matrices, eigenvectors, and consistency ratios. All of it works — and none of it belongs in front of a person who just wants to pick the right apartment.

So we hid it. You’ll never see a matrix on this site. Contradictions show up as friendly suggestions of answers worth revisiting, not as a “CR > 0.1” warning. The mathematics is intact underneath; only the jargon is gone.
